How do I know good2grow Character Tops are safe for children?

All good2grow® Character Tops are produced up to and beyond international safety standards, including American Standards for Testing Materials (ASTM) and Consumers Protection Safety Commission (CPSC), to ensure they meet the necessary safety requirements that protect children of different ages from harm. This strict compliance requires testing toys intended for use by children to be rigorously challenged using standardized procedures. Those that pass these standards are considered to be safe for use by children.

Does good2grow® do internal testing to ensure product safety?

We do. We aren’t content with international standards, so we issue our own internal standards that are even more stringent. In some cases, we’ve invented our own testing procedures and equipment to evaluate our SippaTopcaps, adding another layer of protection to consumers.

Does good2grow® use accredited 3rd party laboratory testing?

Yes. We frequently use accredited 3rd party labs to verify our Character Tops are safe for children. There are three phases of testing for every topper created: design, pilot production run, and periodic testing. We require all topper manufacturers to internally test Character Tops on a daily basis to meet the requirements of ASTM and CPSC. We also audit them on a monthly basis by randomly pulling samples from every manufacturer and sending those Character Tops off to certified 3rd party labs for testing.

How does good2grow® track materials for safety purposes?

We have a sophisticated tracking system for all materials used in creating our Character Tops, including paint and plastic. This intensive program covers everything from the receipt of raw materials, injection, painting, assembly, and shipping, to local stores and consumers. We obtain certificates of analysis from raw material suppliers to ensure testing was completed and passed for critical components like lead.

Our tracking system tells us what components were used, where they came from, and where the Character Tops were shipped. If a problem arises before, during, or after production, we have the ability to correct issues or retrieve the product. It’s that important to us.

How do I know good2grow® juices are safe?

All juice manufactured for good2grow® is produced according to and beyond FDA, USDA and other government agency requirements. Co-packers for good2grow® are required to successfully meet all Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards and certification. Some of these include certification with BRC, ISO 22000, SQF, or other qualified programs and issuing parties.

Are good2grow® products pasteurized?

Yes. Our products are manufactured as a high acid product using a thermal, pasteurization process that effectively eliminates microorganisms that may cause spoilage or illness.

What does good2grow® do to ensure juices stay fresh?

Juice product freshness can be compromised by exposure to oxygen and other things like sunlight, extremely hot temperatures, scalping of aromas and flavors from adjacent containers, and other conditions. For instance, apple juice will slowly change from light golden brown to brown over time as it is exposed to normal atmospheric air, which contains oxygen. It can also become bitter in flavor. Our innovative multilayer bottle is designed to provide oxygen blocking abilities and a sunlight-blocking colorant in the plastic to ensure freshness, while improving sensory attributes of our products.

Does good2grow® have an HACCP program?

We do. All good2grow® products are produced under a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) program to help ensure safe and high quality juices. The program is designed to help our manufacturers do three important things: identify risks involved in producing food products; monitor and correct critical issues during processing; and verify that processes and products are within compliance of food safety and quality.

How does good2grow® ensure juice safety?

good2grow® combines comprehensive external and internal testing to help verify that our juices meet or exceed all regulatory requirements.

Externally, we use accredited 3rd party laboratories to periodically test ingredients, packaging components, and finished products for physical, chemical, and microbial properties. Internally, we require every lot of juice to be tested for key indicators of safety and quality—such as bacteria, mold, yeast, and sensory attributes. Every lot is also reviewed for processing parameter conformance and finished product test results before being released for sale.

How does good2grow® inspect products on high-speed equipment?

Our high-speed production lines run up to 600 bottles per minute, which can make identifying and removing defective products tricky. To meet the challenge, we employ state-of-the-art laser technology and historically proven x-ray equipment. This allows us to inspect each bottle in real time for issues like missing and misaligned foil caps, over and under-filled product, and most importantly, compromised, leaking foil seals. Any defects are automatically rejected from the line.

After my child finished drinking a good2grow®, I noticed a dark residue at the bottom. What is it?

We find that consumers frequently report mold concerns when in fact they’ve encountered sedimentation. Our good2grow® Fruit & Veggie Blends are made with two vegetable concentrates -- carrot and beet -- that have naturally-occurring small, solid particles. While on shelf or in storage, these solids frequently settle to the bottom of a bottle, leaving a dark pulp residue. It’s very similar to the sediment found at the bottom of tomato or orange juice containers. This sedimentation presents absolutely no health or safety concern. We recommend that you shake the product before drinking, much like any other juice that contains pulp. Please see images below for examples of sedimentation.

Can juice products have mold in them?

With any food or beverage product that is all natural and preservative-free, there is a possibility of spoilage, such as fermentation or mold, if the package is compromised and any amount of air gets into the package. We have a rigorous quality management and inspection process through which we examine all bottles after production to ensure they are airtight. But seals can be damaged during transportation, at the retail shelf, or even in the home, allowing the juice to be exposed to air. Air that gets into the package can allow for the growth of mold over time. We encourage you to inspect the product for damage, leaks, or any other abnormalities before giving it to your child and discard accordingly.

Can good2grow® bottles be recycled?

They can! Unlike most children’s juice boxes, good2grow® plastic bottles and Character Tops  can be recycled. It’s never too early to teach kids the good habit of recycling.

Are good2grow® products BPA-free?

Yes. All good2grow® bottles and Character Tops are BPA-free.
